This workshop provides an in-depth understanding of evidence-based approaches to the conceptualization and treatment of emotional disorders, including anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, trauma, depressive disorders, problem anger, and maladaptive perfectionism.
Symposium participants will receive comprehensive training in a wide range of approaches including cognitive strategies (e.g., behavioural experiments, cognitive reappraisal, shifting core beliefs, working with imagery), behavioural treatments (e.g., exposure, relaxation training, problem solving), acceptance and mindfulness-related approaches (e.g., meditation), and other emotion regulation methods. Case conceptualization and transdiagnostic approaches will be emphasized.
Participants will also be learning strategies for compliance; relaxation and mindfulness-based techniques for managing intense emotions; and learn effective methods for changing behaviours that maintain emotional disorders.
Strategies for managing challenging presentations and enhancing motivation will also be discussed. Many of the treatment strategies will be highlighted with video demonstrations, and detailed handouts will be provided to participants.
